Intel's vision for notebooks

It doesnt seem like Intel has any issues sharing their vision and roadmap for not only their chips, but for how future notebooks will look like and what functionality they'll include. So lets take a look at their presentation guidelines intended for laptop manufacturers to follow: Intel's Core M processor - thin, light laptops, tablets, and 2-in-1 hybrids, fan-less devices that measure less than 0.35 inches (9mm) and weighing about 1.4 lbs (0.6 kg). Core M will be released this Christmas and brand names like HP, Dell, Asus, and Lenovo will each release their new designs.

In addition, Intel wants notebooks to include 3D sensors/cameras so that users can capture motion and be able to create 3D models from images.

Intel's Developer Ultrabook leaked via FCC reveal a 360-degree hinged notebook powered by their upcoming Broadwell processor. This is a 13.3-inch 3K resolution screen (3200 x 1800 pixels) featuring multi-touch (includes N-Trig DuoSense Pen 2 active pen). Two cameras (one as a 3D camera/sensor), 8GB RAM, Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0, WiDi 5.0 wireless display, LTE radio support, fingerprint reader, 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, card reader slot, and a backlit keyboard:

Asus G551, G771 and G751

Asus is rumored to release two new ROG models, a 15.6" (G551) and a 17.3" version (G771) featuring IPS display technology and powered by Intel's Haswell Core i7 quad-core processor.

Supposedly, the graphics card powering them will be either the nVidia GeForce GTX 850M or the nVidia GeForce GTX 860M. Which doesn't make sense, since these cards are now considered more of a mid-range multimedia line. I think hardcore gamers will be disappointed to learn that the more powerful GTX 880M isn't included.

That said, the Asus G751 model will supposedly feature the next-gen nVidia GeForce GTX 980M GPU based on "Maxwell" architecture that will double the performance of the GTX 880M. This will make it their high-end model:

MSI GS30 Shadow with GamingDock

MSI's upcoming GS30 Shadow, a 13.3 inch notebook (with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution), packs the latest Intel 4th Gen Core i7 and Iris Pro graphics. Weighs 1.3kg with a 19.8mm height.

What's unique about this laptop is the "GamingDock" that will be offered with it as an accessory. The dock can house any desktop class graphics card with a full bandwidth PCI-e x16 GPU slot. This would give the extra performance power that many might feel is lacking in mobile gaming GPU's.

No pricing or other specs have leaked yet, but the launch date is set January 2015.
